The Vital role of Civil Society Organizations in Tobacco Control The comprehensive legislation in India forms a strong base for tobacco control in the country. However, this is a social law and can not be implemented with out strong support from the civil society.

Therefore, capacity building among civil society organizations is essential facilitating better output and out reach of the project. Awareness generation among the general public among about ill effects of tobacco use is a must. That would also help in effective monitoring and watch dogging of the tobacco control legislation in areas of advertising.

The need for mass awareness generation clubbed with acute dissemination of information is the need of the hour.
