Capacity Building of VHAI network by Tobacco Experts on 28th November’07
On the 28th September ‘07 the Voluntary Health Association of India
arranged a capacity building workshop for its network. The workshop
was attended by VHAI state partners; Dr. Vinayak Prasad (Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India) : Dr. Nevin Wilson
and Dr Partha Pratim Mandal from The Union; Mr. Hemant Goswami,
from the Burning Brain Society, Chandigarh; Dr. Mira Aghi, Behavioural
Scientist and Communications Expert: and representatives from Hriday-Shan.
Dr. Vinayak Prasad (Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of India) gave an enlightening talk on the Role
of Public Private Partnership in Tobacco Control activity stressing
on the role of the government.
Mr. Hemant Goswami, Chairperson Burning Brain Society
took a capacity building session with the VHAI Network. He is the
man who played an active role in making Chandigarh smoke free. His
session was inspirational for the members present, as it included
the challenges he faced and the strategies he adopted to combat
the pressure tactics of the tobacco industry during his endeavour.
Dr.Mira Aghi, Behavioural Scientist and Communications
Expert took a session on Advocacy strategies on tobacco control
(with specific reference to pictorial warnings issue) .
