Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) conducted advocacy with the Village/Block/District level elected representatives at Gujarat for creation of "Tobacco free Villages"



The Gujarati version of the Parliamentary folder was released by the MLA of Anand District in Gujarat which is a major Tobacco growing belt. Since, there are large numbers of chewing tobacco users, the advocacy campaign involved members of the Self help Groups, elected representatives from Block and Districts, nodal officers from the state and district, representatives from NGOs working on Tobacco control and the media.

There was participation of more than 550 members and the elected representatives from 4 villages/ block have committed to make their villages tobacco free by 31st May 2010. They signed a form which laid down the guidelines for Tobacco free villages and in the coming months they would be adequately guided for the same.
